Whether you’re after a cosy staycation or a wholesome girl’s trip, the Cotswolds has it all, imo! If you’ve been, you know it’s one of the most beautiful parts of England. If you haven’t, you’re in for a treat. Think The Holiday minus the snow (depending on when you go). Quaint little villages, charming pubs, and plenty of spots to relax and unwind - here are some of my favourites <3
Great Tew
The Quince and Clover is in the cutest little village and has the most aesthetic vibe - seriously, it’s like something out of a postcard. If you’re in the area later or just fancy a drink, it’s right next door to The Falkland Arms. It’s super welcoming inside, and while people rave about the Sunday roast, I honestly think it’s more of a drinks spot. Cocktails, a beer, or whatever you’re in the mood for are perfect here!
Charlbury
Charlbury has so many adorable restaurants! The Bull is a must - definitely book ahead because it’s super popular. They’ve got a gorgeous, private dining area with shearling-covered chairs that’s perfect for winter cosiness. Plus, their garden is amazing for drinks and food in the summer. Just down the road is The Bell, which is owned by Daylesford – another cute spot for a drink before dinner, and people go crazy for the food there too. The village itself is also lovely to wander around, and it’s perfect for a bit of house spotting!
Broadway
If you’re looking for the cutest village vibes, you have to visit Broadway – it’s one of the most famous villages in the Cotswolds. They’ve got an adorable spot called Broadway Deli. They sell everything from ceramic vegetable platters and bowls to the cutest homeware, plus I spotted Dubai chocolate there, which was a fun surprise! The stock is amazing.
There are loads of cafes nearby for a quick sandwich or fresh juice, which is a great way to fuel up before a walk up the hill for some stunning views. You’ll also find plenty of little shops and tearooms for scones and obviously tea. If this is your first time in England, The Lygon Arms is a fab place to stay and located on the high street. I’ve heard it’s got a great restaurant, spa, and just an all-around cosy vibe.
Brunch & Farm Shops
If brunch is what you’re after, head over to The Cotswold Guy, a super cute, tiny farm shop where you can grab a bite or pick up some fresh, local produce. It’s a perfect stop for a lazy morning before you get exploring.
Another breakfast fave of mine is Blake’s Kitchen, in Clanfield. It’s such a delicious spot with an inviting atmosphere. They’ve got a great menu, and everything just feels super fresh and comforting. Plus, if you’re in the mood for a coffee, The Double Red Duke is just around the corner, so you can easily head over there afterwards.
If you’re looking for more of a farm shop adventure, Dunkertons is seriously amazing! It’s got everything you could want - a farm shop, a bar, a cafe, and tons of different street food options. It has both an indoor and outdoor area, I could honestly spend all day here.
And if you’re a fan of Jeremy Clarkson, Diddly Squat is always a fun stop. Not only is there the farm to check out, but there’s also a pub now where you can try his Hawkston Lager. Loads of local pubs, like The Bell in Charlbury, sell it too, so you don’t have to go too far to get a taste!
Where To Stay
For a more unique stay, check out Airbnb - I stayed in this little cottage just a five-minute drive from Soho Farmhouse. If you’re not keen on the price tag there, it’s a great (and more affordable) option. The Bull also has rooms upstairs, so you could always book a night there too! I’ll link a few other cute hotels I recommend if you're looking for more options:
The Double Red Duke – The food here is lovely, and while the room decor isn’t the most spectacular, it more than makes up for it with its gorgeous outdoor space in summer. Think striped parasols and a garden setting - heaven!
The Rectory Hotel – This place is the definition of wholesome and relaxed. If you’re after a calm retreat, you’ll love it here. Plus, they’ve got a pool for those rare warmer days!
Bull Burford – A charming spot with all the classic Cotswold vibes. It’s cosy, and the food is great. It’s got that perfect mix of comfort and character.
Lakes by Yoo – For something a little more luxurious, this is a stunning option. It’s set by beautiful lakes and perfect for a peaceful getaway.
The Wild Rabbit – Also known for amazing food (honestly, you can’t go wrong here), it’s an idyllic spot for a staycay with gorgeous rooms.
Thyme – I find this place so special. It’s got a lovely country feel, amazing food, and just an overall welcoming vibe.
The Painswick – A little more boutique-y, but with a beautiful garden and rooms that have that ‘make yourself at home’ feel.
Other Cool Spots
Burford Garden Centre – Perfect for plant lovers, homeware enthusiasts, or anyone looking for quirky gifts.
Chippy Flower Farm – This place has the most beautiful seasonal flowers and arrangements.
Banbury Antiques – A must-visit for lovers of antique and all things unique! Filled with so many different sections: art, jewellery & vintage furniture ofc.
Please do more of these!!
